Gfinity plc (AIM: GFIN), a world leading esports and gaming solutions provider today announced that Athlos Game Technologies (“Athlos”) has entered a one year rolling commercial agreement with leading global mobile game operator, Playgendary. The Athlos Tournament Platform will be integrated into Playgendary games starting in 2023. The game titles will be announced when ready to be launched. Athlos is 100% owned by Gfinity.

Under the terms of the agreement Athlos will be paid a monthly fee based on the number of active users. The financial terms are commercially sensitive and therefore will not be publicly disclosed at this time.

Playgendary is a global top-10 mobile game developer. It publishes leading games such as Bowmasters, Tomb of the Mask and Kick the Buddy. Its games have more than three billion installs and 250 million players online every month. The Company works on ten or more projects simultaneously, continually adding to its pipeline of game titles.

Gfinity launched Athlos Gaming Technologies in August 2022. Athlos provides its clients with a competition platform that leverages the power of competitive gaming to deepen player engagement, to lower player churn, and to increase average revenue per user (ARPU). Athlos is market-leading owned tech IP that can be integrated directly into games in a matter of hours, allowing publishers to deliver advanced, complex competitive functionality without the costly development overhead.

Athlos is currently being used to power the esports tournaments of three of the world’s most popular mobile games.

Gfinity Chairman Neville Upton said: “We are delighted to join forces with the Playgendary team. Most gaming spend is now in-game and competitive players spend significantly more than casual gamers. This means our market leading technology can deliver a significant and direct cash benefit to publishers”.

He added: “Playgendary is one of the world’s leading mobile game publishers with excellent games and a strong pipeline of new titles many of which benefit from competitive play. The commercial model means that as competitive play within the games grow so does Athlos’ recurring revenue stream. This is one of many similar deals that we aim to enter into with game publishers big and small”

On Friday evening in the final race of the season McLaren Shadow’s Lucas Blakeley won the 2022 F1 Esports Series Pro Championship in dramatic fashion, securing his maiden title. McLaren Shadow have also been crowned the Constructors Champions for 2022 for the first time, clinching the title with two races to go after a brilliant season for Blakeley and his ever-present teammate Bari Boroumand.

The Grand Final began with five drivers battling for the championship, with only 22 points seperating Blakeley at the top and last years’ champion, Jarno Opmeer in fifth. Blakeley’s teammate Boroumand, Haas rookie Thomas Ronhaar and Red Bull’s Frede Rasmussen were the other three drivers in contention for the title. The Constructors’ Championship was also still to be decided going into the Grand Final, but McLaren Shadow had a dominant lead on Red Bull and Mercedes.

On Wednesday, the Pro Championship visited Suzuka in what was a entertaining encounter, full of exciting, wheel-to-wheel racing. It was Ronhaar who started the race on pole but Alfa Romeo’s Nicolas Longuet came out victorious, getting his first race win of the season as the Haas driver and Rasmussen made up the rest of the podium.  Opmeer was unable to continue his impressive form from the previous event and his title hopes came to an end after not being able to finish the race. McLaren Shadow clinched the Constructors’ Championship at Suzuka with Blakeley and Boroumand finishing 4th and 5th respectively.

Blakeley went on to secure his fourth win of the season in the penulatimate race at Interlagos, which began in wet conditions. The Scotsman, who started on pole in a McLaren 1-2, was able to hold his position at the front, avoiding the battling going on behind him between two of his title rivals, with Rasmussen and Boroumand eventually securing P2 and P3, with the latter’s title hopes ending due to results around him. Meanwhile, the other tittle contender, Ronhaar, had a dissapointing race for his standards, finishing sixth after starting the race in fifth – however, this result still kept the Dutchman’s title hopes alive.

This meant in the final race of the season, it was all to play for at the Yas Marina Circuit, with Blakeley (169 points) needing just five points to secure the title, ahead of Rasmussen (148) and Ronhaar (147). It started with a surprise as AlphaTauri’s Josh Idowu got his first pole position of the season, crowning what has been an impressive season for the former McLaren driver. However, the title-chasing trio took up the three spots behind him so it was set-up for a tense race to the finish line, especially with a mix of tyre strategies at play. Ronhaar, who started in P2, took the lead before the pit stops, with Red Bull’s Marcel Kiefer also playing a role in keeping the Haas man behind him in an attempt to boost his teammate’s title chances. Rasmussen soon took the lead and held on to it until the end, with Ronhaar and Idowu making up the top three, but it wasn’t enough as Blakeley took P4 and secured his first ever F1 Esports Series Pro Championship title, culminating in several years of determination and improvement from the Scotsman.

This season drivers continued to race remotely from their homes or team facilities, as they have done since 2020, but the hugely popular competition continues to broadcast from the Gfinity Esports Arena in London. Teams battled it out on the official F1 2022 video game, developed by Codemasters and EA Sports, with the live shows being streamed online via official channels of Formula 1 on Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and Huya, as well as broadcast on television via select international broadcast partners.

For the third consecutive year, Aramco was the presenting partner of the Pro Championship alongside long-term partners DHL and Fanatec, who have continued to play a fundamental role in the F1 Esports Series, with the latter supplying hardware to all drivers for this year’s campaign, as it has done since 2018.

F1 Esports events have achieved over 45m views across TV and digital, in the last 18 months, and this popularity led to a record number of people attempting to be a part of this year’s Pro Exhibition, with over 500k taking part in qualification. If you would like to find out more information on how to take part in the F1 Esports Series and for more information on the Pro Championship presented by Aramco, visit www.f1esports.com.

Brandon Snow, Managing Director of Commercial at Formula 1, said:

“It has been another fantastic season which once again, came down to the wire in the final event of the season. I want to thank all the teams, individuals and, partners that have been able to make this season’s championship one of the most entertaining yet. It has been an incredible battle between all the drivers from start to finish with some brilliant wheel-to-wheel racing, and I wanted to congratulate the winners, Lucas Blakeley and McLaren Shadow. We look forward to another exciting year for F1 Esports in 2023!”

John Clarke, CEO at Gfinity, said:

“F1 Esports Pro Series is the gift that keeps on giving. The 2022 season has shone a spotlight on new racing talent and intense team rivalries. The broadcast product has been strengthened by taking us behind the scenes to the Team HQ’s and showcasing how F1 Esports and their F1 counterparts are sharing their skills, knowledge and resources to bring these two worlds closer together. The result is another year of competitive wheel to wheel racing and a surge in fans watching the shows and supporting the talented drivers. Bring on 2023!”

Paul Jeal, F1 Senior Franchise Director at Codemasters, said:

“The F1 Esports Series Pro Championship kept fans gripped from lights out to the final chequered flag and continues to showcase the world’s best virtual drivers. Huge congratulations to our new World Champion, Lucas Blakeley, for holding his nerve in the final week and to Lucas, Bari Boroumand and Wilson Hughes for securing the Constructors Championship for McLaren Shadow.”

The 2022 F1 Esports Series Pro Championship presented by Aramco returns on Wednesday 14th September
in a new three day-per-Event format with an increased offering of live shows. This year’s schedule of Events
and full driver line-ups have been announced, as teams prepare to battle it out once again for a piece of the
huge $750,000 prize pot.

This year, drivers will compete in four Events that will each feature three days of racing action, with qualifying
and the race of each Round taking place on its own day. Both qualifying and the race for Round 1 at the
Sakhir International Circuit, will take place on Wednesday 14th September, before Round 2 (Imola) and Round
3 (Silverstone) will take place on the Thursday and Friday respectively.
Each qualifying session will be live from 15:30 BST on the official Formula 1 YouTube, Twitch and Huya, with the race be broadcast live from 19:30 BST on the same platforms, plus Facebook. All the race streams will also be broadcast with select TV broadcasters too, including Sky Sports F1, Viaplay and ESPN. Production will again come live from the Gfinity Arena in London, but drivers will continue to race from team Esports facilities or factories, or their own homes, and will compete on the official F1® 22 video game, developed by EA and Codemasters.

Last year’s series exceeded expectations and shattered records last year reaching over 23 million views
across all digital platforms, representing a 103% year-on-year increase; the Grand Final alone saw 4.5m
fans tune in to watch – a 67% YoY increase. The competition’s impressive appeal is undeniable as over 1.3
million people attempted to qualify for this year’s championship, almost three times as many as last year.
For their third consecutive year, Aramco return as the presenting partner of the Pro Championship alongside
long-term partners DHL and Fanatec, who continue to play a fundamental role in the F1 Esports Series, with
the latter again supplying hardware to all drivers for this year’s campaign, as it has done since 2018.

HUGE MOVES ACROSS THE GRID

Since last year’s Championship, there have been several high-profile moves across the grid, including Lucas
Blakeley, who was third in last year’s competition, moving from Aston Martin to McLaren Shadow, Manuel
Biancolilla’s return after a year out to join Aston Martin, and Filip Prešnajder’s move from Alfa Romeo to
Alpine. Reigning back-to-back champion Jarno Opmeer remains at Mercedes, whilst Brendon Leigh stays at
Ferrari alongside team-mate Davide Tonizza. Red Bull have retained all their drivers, including the
formidable pairing of Marcel Kiefer and Frede Rasmussen.
This new season brings plenty of new talent to the grid as Alpine sign Briton Luke Smith who finished
second in the 2022 Pro Exhibition, while Aston Martin bring in Pro-Exhibition semi-finalist Josh Evans, and
Haas sign the 2022 Pro Exhibition champion, Thomas Ronhaar.
There are a total of nine driver moves across the grid, and seven new drivers on this year’s driver line-up
who have all been scouted through the 2022 Pro Exhibition after qualifying via one of F1® Esports Series’
qualification routes, including the DHL Time Trial.

“We’re very excited about the new season of the F1 Esports Series Pro Championship and its growing

to come together and test their skills on twelve iconic Formula 1 circuits. This year’s event promises to be
the biggest and best yet and we can’t wait to bring the racing live to the world from the home of F1
Esports, the Gfinity Arena.”

Work continues on development of deeper automation and scale, with the product being used 73 million times in the last 30 days. Athlos has a growing number of clients on recurring annual contracts and a strong pipeline of prospective future clients.

Athlos is 100% owned by Gfinity. The Company is currently exploring partnership opportunities with organisations with experience in delivering and successfully managing SaaS business models.

Appointment of strategic advisor

The Company is also excited to announce the appointment of Todd Sitrin as a strategic advisor to the Athlos leadership team. Todd is a video game veteran with more than thirty years of experience and global leadership in interactive and linear entertainment, esports, media, sports, and technology. He has launched and supported hundreds of live service and traditional games as well as led critical, strategic growth initiatives at Electronic Arts for 20 years, most recently as the Senior Vice President & General Manager of EA’s Competitive Gaming Entertainment. Todd’s experience spans many of the world’s leading games including FIFA, Apex Legends, Madden NFL, The Sims and Battlefield.

Gfinity Chairman, Neville Upton said: “Athlos Gaming Technologies is aligned with Gfinity’s strategic focus on generating value by owning, scaling and monetising communities and our owned tech IP. In-game, live-service revenues are a key focus of the industry. It amounts to $127bn p.a., more than double the value of up-front game sales revenues. Engaged competitive gamers can spend 30X in game compared to the non-competitive gamer. This is where Athlos delivers by dramatically increasing the number of engaged competitive gamers in any game whether on mobile, PC, or console. The launch of the platform supports our confidence for performing in line with market expectations.”

He added: “We are delighted to welcome Todd Sitrin to the Athlos team. His extensive knowledge of the game publisher universe and impressive track record of delivering major strategic initiatives will make a massive impact as we grow Athlos into a product that is built into tens of 1000’s of games worldwide. By adding Todd to an already strong leadership group, we are pushing forward with our exciting plans at pace. Athlos plays in one of the fastest growing segments of the gaming industry and Todd’s expertise will be invaluable to helping it be a success.”

After weeks of intense head-to-head competition, the V10 R-League Grand Final played out this weekend!

For the first time ever, the tournament culminated in a two-day live final at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi, supported by Miral and Etihad. Drivers from four of the world’s leading sim-racing teams – Team Redline; Yas Heat; R8G Esports; and Mercedes – battled it out in person, as they took to the stage at Yas Mall, marking the return of live LAN competitive SIM racing.

Extensive coverage of every race was aired on BT Sport as part of its bumper weekend of sport, with the Grand Final broadcast live and uninterrupted before the highly anticipated UFC London on Saturday night.

After some action-packed semi-finals on Friday, just two star-studded teams remained, with Mercedes and Redline facing off for £40,000 of the £100,000 prize pot. Redline had prior experience of the final, having won the first season of the V10 R-League, whilst Mercedes were debutants but used to so much success in other motorsport and esports series.

An exhilarating final ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw, but it was Mercedes that won on Team Race point countback!

Congratulations to Mercedes and well done to all of the ten teams and dozens of drivers who have competed in this year’s V10 R-League Championship.
